(2 Feb 1969) General Nguyen Van Kiem

(2 Feb 1969) General Nguyen Van Kiem, head of President Nguyen Van Thieu’s special military staff was injured in a Vietcong bomb attack . The attack took place as the General was driving to his office in central Saigon. A man threw a plastic bomb through the window of the General’s vehicle and then ran away. The explosion ripped out the floor of the car causing it to catch fire. The consequential flames engulfed the two army jeeps driving in front and behind. Although General Kiem suffered a broken leg and minor injuries, his driver was killed and three men in the escort jeeps were also injured.
